A Year of Major Developments in Air Defence

Since 2020, Kalkan Savunma has operated in the defence industry, robotic technologies, automation and machinery equipment supply sectors.

Stating that they are working towards a fully independent defence industry, Akyol reported that they have achieved outstanding performance and success in radar, one of the critical components for this goal.

Ahmet Akyol stated that, with the radars they developed for air defence systems, they detected the ISS, which Alper Gezeravcı had reached, as it passed over Türkiye.

Noting that SİPER will enter the inventory this year, Akyol continued:

"With SİPER, we will also have brought long-range, high-altitude air defence into the inventory. Türkiye has reached this level with the contributions of ASELSAN, TÜBİTAK, ROKETSAN and thousands of SMEs. Under the leadership of our state, we will have completed the end-to-end air defence layer in 2024. There are SİPER Block-2 and SİPER Block-3. We have our GÜRZ system, which we call hybrid air defence. We have passed important milestones in that too. It is a system that combines several capabilities, such as being able to fire both fragmentation ammunition and short-range interceptor missiles from a single platform, and to conduct engagements simultaneously in different scenarios. With this approach, I can say that it will be a year of major developments in air defence as well."

"HİSAR-O and HİSAR-O+ have also entered the inventory"

Underlining that HİSAR-A and HİSAR-A+ have entered the inventory, Akyol said:

"HİSAR-O and HİSAR-O+, in the layer above, have also entered the inventory. We are working with our stakeholder ROKETSAN to extend the range a little further through some improvements. Air defence is a field that we have localised all the way from the seeker heads down to the materials, starting with the powder used to make these seekers. The sometimes unjust embargoes that Türkiye faces today have now led us to localise starting from the level of metal powder. Air defence is a large system in which we bring together all technologies on a single platform, from seeker heads to communication systems, from radars to electro-optical systems, from command and control to navigation, and from identification friend or foe (IFF) systems to fire control algorithms and command and control systems."

Akyol noted that ASELSAN launched nearly 20 new products in 2023.
